Youth Involvement
Would you like to be involved with the greatest movement of all? Or how about making a difference? Want your voice heard?
The more you get involved the greater your chances are for making a difference.
When youth join the Safety Solutions Coalition they are given opportunities to make a difference in our community. The youth Coalition plans, prepares, and executes school assemblies, they instruct school faculty members on ATOD (alchohol, tobacco, and other drugs) and how they are affecting local youth. The youth gather in monthly meetings to plan these outreach events as well as community events.
In February 2009, nine youth from various community schools researched and advocated for changes in perscription drug abuse policy. As part of their efforts they presented at community family night to educate Iron County about the dangers of perscription drug abuse.
Youth Coalition members are given opportunities to take their voices beyond our community as well. Every year selected members of the youth Coalition are given opportunities to attend state and national conferences. In conjunction with the national conference the past two years, the Coalition has met with Senator Hatch and Congressman Matheson to advocate for policy change.
Youth Coalition Meeting is every 4th Thursday at 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the Cedar City police department conference room upstairs. For any additional information please call or email.
